Two Truths and a LieSince folks enjoyed my rumination on pumpkin spice and what it can teach us, it seems appropriate to dive a little into the history of the term Black Friday and what lessons it might hold for us, too. I’ll admit, I was today years old when I learned the meaning I’d always heard and assumed was true is actually a very good example of framing (or reframing). If, like me, you’re thinking Black Friday has something to do with retailers going from being ‘in the red’ (operating at a loss) until the…Keep Reading
You’ve Been ServedIf you don’t know, Atlanta restaurants are being dragged all over social media these days. The beefing began when very popular TikTok food reviewer Keith Lee came to the Big Peach and couldn’t get served at several restaurants. I'll admit that I like Lee. His reviews are always respectful, never snarky or mean. And, Lee himself is humble and grateful for his followers and the very real impact they have made together on small, independent restaurants from his hometown of Vegas to LA, Chicago,…Keep Reading
Taking a BreatherSomething that's living rent-free in my brain these days is a crazy finding from a Google Deep Mind AI research project published last month. When prompted to "take a deep breath and work on this problem step by step," their AI was 80% more accurate in solving math problems. That's a lot. Without that prompt, the AI achieved only a 34% accuracy rate. Even just adding the prompt, "work on this problem step by step" saw a 71% solve rate. When combined with "take a deep breath," the prompt was…Keep Reading
Pumpkin Spice Is Here to StayAre you a freak for pumpkin season? Do you get excited when the pumpkin spice items hit menus? I avoid it like the plague. But pumpkin spice season is without question big business for businesses. And, it really hasn't taken that long for this phenomenon to take root. Starbucks, the company credited with…Keep Reading
SomersaultingIt might seem strange that with war in the Middle East, a paralyzed US Congress, and the meteoric box office eclipse set off by Taylor Swift's Eras Tour "The Movie," that the thing that captures my eye and attention is a breaking news alert on my phone Sunday evening as I'm getting ready for bed. Actress Suzanne Somers Dead at 76 After Battling Cancer I am young enough to remember watching Somers in her break-out role of Chrissy Snow on Three's Company as the episodes air live. On TV, Somers…Keep Reading
Paying to PlayThis past week something very interesting happened in the world of social media and it’s probably not what you’re thinking. It has nothing to do with the latest celebrity coupling or uncoupling, MeToo scandal, or ‘people behaving badly’ viral video. It’s actually something far more insidious. The dawn of paid social media access. Just a few weeks ago the hot mess that is the owner of X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk, floated the idea of charging all users a monthly fee to keep using the…Keep Reading
